At Sid Valley Practice we run a confidential nurse led sexual health advice service. The nurses can give advice about contraception and sexual health and all our nurses can perform sexual health screening, testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and other infections. Alternatively you can collect a testing kit for Chlamydia from the nurses, returning it after use when we will send it to the lab for you. You can then collect the results a few days later.

Based in the centre of Exmouth, the Exmouth and East Devon Sexual Health Clinic is open twice a week on a Monday afternoon/evening, and on Thursday afternoons.

These clinics are for booked appointments only, and for further information or to make a self referral appointment, please call 01395 266295, Monday to Friday 8.00am - 6.00pm, with a strictly confidential answer phone facility outside these times.

The Clinic provides a full screening service for sexually transmitted infections, including where appropriate the taking of blood tests and swabs, together with advice and information to all residents of East Devon.

The Clinic is GP led by Dr Fiona Crooker and Nurse Harriet Swarbrick and Health Care Assistant, Kate Sampson.

Chlamydia

This is now the commonest sexually transmitted disease. It is a bacterial infection which is found predominantly in the under 25’s. Symptoms include discharge, urethritis and pelvic inflammatory disease leading to infertility however most often there are no symptoms.

Screening is therefore essential and this can now be undertaken by the patient without the need for an examination. Please contact our practice nurse. Screening for men involves only a urine test, if in doubt it may be wise to be screened.
